Some vaccines have helped to virtually eradicate particular diseases. But others, like those for influenza and malaria, aren’t as effective. Studies suggest that this may be due to a need for longer antigen exposure time than the vaccines’ typical 1-2 days.
Now, researchers are developing a polymer-nanoparticle hydrogel that could be combined with vaccines. This hydrogel would allow for a slower release of antigens and allow patients to produce more antibodies.
