What happens to other emergencies during a pandemic? US hospitals’ ER’s have seen a drastic drop-off in patients since coronavirus cases emerged.
In some ways, this seems reasonable – there are, for instance, less people driving, so there will be less car accidents. But the rate of conditions like strokes and heart attacks shouldn’t significantly change, nor should essential follow-up care.
But out of fear of catching COVID-19, many people prefer to avoid the emergency room, or even the doctor’s office. Others are confused by what kind of access they’re allowed, or if they should even get in touch with their physician for things like prescription refills and regular check-ups.
