As much as the world needs doctors and other healthcare professionals, getting a medical degree isn’t always easy. Price is a barrier for many, but what happens if you live in a place where it’s impossible to find actual teachers?
That’s currently the case in Syria, where, due to the war, most people capable of teaching medical classes or courses have fled the country – including 50% of its doctors.
Fortunately, students in Syria’s medical schools have found a solution. Online learning platform Osmosis gives them free access to an extensive database of medical learning materials, including videos of various kinds of surgeries. In exchange, they have to help the platform by translating these materials into Arabic, a language that’s underrepresented in the medical education field.
