There's a New Way to Recover a Long-Lost Childhood Language

Have you ever wanted to recapture the language of your youth that you thought you had forgotten forever? Well, it turns out you may be able to do just that! Researchers have been searching for ways to recover languages acquired in very early childhood. It seems they may have found a way through hypnosis.

In this interesting article from Psychology Today, one man swore he had forgotten the Japanese he knew as a child. In order to assimilate into the culture in the United States, his family spoke only English starting when he was 4 years old. Under hypnosis, however, a psychologist had him go back further in time, to age 3. That is when all of his forgotten Japanese came flowing out of him. Since then, the man has progressively gained back his first language. And he is not the only example. Imagine how many of us might be bilingual and just not remember!

Would you do this to find a forgotten language? Let us know!
