A new development is making things a lot easier for Uber drivers and riders: in-app translation.

Released on February 27, the upgraded Uber app now allows riders and drivers to translate each other’s messages into their preferred language.

Will it work? Sure, machine translation [isn’t flawless](https://www.rws.com/insights/rws-moravia-blog/eight-of-the-most-bizarre-translation-fails-of-2018/), but in this particular situation, it seems like a good fit, since messages on the Uber app tend to be limited to specific instructions and location-related information, rather than the random variety of a regular message exchange you’d have with a friend or coworker.
